Death Can Cure (Deadpool)

As a fan of superhero films, of course I had to check this one out.  It may not be as good as Kick-Ass or Scott Pilgrim, but this film does not disappoint.  Bringing in new conventions to a genre that is starting to get old, Deadpool gives the audience a fun and raucous rated-R comic book film.  Ryan Reynolds has failed a few times before as a superhero, but this one finally works.  Not only is his character engaging, but he himself seems fully into the character.  Based off of the promos for the film that came out, it was nice to see Reynolds evolve into this character that seems to fit him very well.

Breaking the fourth wall is just one of the ways that the director connects the audience into the film.  This is a fully immersive film that kept me connected to the character for the whole feature.  This isn't your usual superhero that is a role model to the public.  Rather Deadpool is a "hero" that is so typical of people in their 20s.  He makes dick jokes and is not afraid to say exactly what he thinks at any given moment.  This is a great breakaway from the mentor-hero type that we get from Captain America, Wolverine, and those other somewhat boring and one-dimensional characters.

While the film continually jokes throughout the story, not all of the jokes were that great.  I am definitely excited for another Deadpool movie, but I hope that they can create a more clever script.  The jokes were fun, but got a bit exhausting as some of them lacked being clever.  That being said, this film is exactly what it was marketed to be and I am sure Deadpool couldn't give one shit what I have to say about it.

The Bottom Line:  Funny and fun, check it out for an actually good Ryan Reynolds character.

Score: 8/10
