Critics get a lot of bad publicity as individuals without a soul. They are often deemed as lesser beings because they do not create their own films. This judgement might stand true for some critics, but I am here to defend the form of critiquing a film. In order to defend critics, I have to discuss why I like to critique films myself. I believe that by critiquing a film, the writer is sharing a viewing experience with their readers. This could act as a call to action, getting the reader to see more films based on certain passages written in the reviews they read. Therefore, reviews act as a way to spread diverse films to readers.
Another reason why I critique films is for discussion purposes. By critiquing a film, I hope to engage an audience in discussion. While I hope others agree with me a lot of the time, I also value other views. Through comments, emails, and guest reviews, everyone's opinion is welcome on Firstflix. Book clubs have been around for a long time, and Firstflix likes to follow the sort of methods that are involved in book clubs. Firstflix is a free space for people to discuss their favorite films and criticize films that they do not like. I wholly expect this to happen! Just remember that it is possible to critique something without offending the creator, which is what good critics strive to do. After all, we learn from our mistakes.
